On June 30, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Mali Abdoulaye Diop at the latter’s initiative.
The foreign ministers discussed current issues of the further development of traditionally friendly relations between Russia and Mali, including stronger political, trade, economic and other interaction. They agreed to continue constructive cooperation in the UN in resolving global and African problems.
Mr Lavrov confirmed Russia’s invariable course of providing Bamako with the necessary support on a bilateral basis, including in overcoming acute socio-economic problems, enhancing the combat capability of its national armed forces and training army and law-enforcement personnel.
The foreign ministers reviewed some issues related to the preparations for the Second Russia-Africa Summit in St Petersburg in July 2023. A representative Malian delegation led by interim President of Mali Assimi Goita will take part in its work.
